Road To Mental Readiness (R2MR): Train the Trainer Course


Mental Readiness taught by our Master Trainers

The trainers of this program are Master Trainer, as certified by CPSIRT

The Road to Mental Readiness (R2MR) program was created by the Department of National Defence (DND) and provided by CPSIRT.


  • to build awareness of mental illness and operational stress injuries (OSIs) through education

  • to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness

  • to increase understanding and support for these conditions

The goal of R2MR is to improve short-term performance and long-term mental health outcomes. Research has shown that R2MR may provide a benefit to public service personnel (PSP).


To attend this course you must be a public safety personnel (psp) or directly support a public safety organization. PSP refers to people who ensure the safety and security of Canadians and includes:


  • police services, (Municipal, Provincial or Federal)

  • volunteer or career firefighters

  • paramedics, front line or managers

  • correctional employees (provincial or federal)

  • border services personnel

  • operational and intelligence personnel

  • search and rescue personnel

  • Indigenous emergency managers

  • dispatch and communications personnel

  • Hospital staff, primarily emergency department staff

It is of the utmost importance to select the right individuals to be instructors, as the challenge in mental health training is not only what is being taught, but equally important is who teaches it. EWEMS may contact you or your manager to evaluate your appropriateness and ensure you meet the criteria before your enrolment will be confirmed.


EWEMS will be holding a train the trainer program in partnership with the CPSIRT. This training opportunity will provide participants R2MR Trainer Level II. A confirmed schedule will be provided prior to commencement via email. All training material will be provided by a file download site and it is the responsibility of all participants to print out the training material prior to attending the course.


EWEMS will provide wellness break snacks, beverages, and coffee during the week. Meals and accommodations are the responsibility of the participants.


Parking information will be provided to participants before the event. The cost of the course is $180/person, based on a the participant capacity being met at 30 people. If less, the cost may increase. This course if provided on a strict cost recovery basis.
